United Rentals is a major equipment hire provider operating across Australia and New Zealand, supplying machinery and site solutions to a broad mix of industries including civil construction, councils, infrastructure and mining.
United Rentals required a single water trailer solution that could service this diverse customer base. The brief called for the largest practical trailer capacity, mine-site compatibility and simple, intuitive operation suitable for a hire environment.
Importantly, the unit needed to be robust, compliant and flexible enough to transition seamlessly between general construction work and higher-spec mining applications.
The challenge was delivering one trailer that could genuinely “do it all” without over-complicating operation for end users or compromising on safety and compliance.
Solution & Benefits
Durotank recommended and delivered its 2,400L Poly Water Trailer, purpose-selected to balance capacity, durability and versatility across multiple use cases.
To ensure mine-site compatibility and maximise performance, the trailer was paired with a diesel-driven pump, making it suitable for sites where petrol engines are restricted.
Operational ease was a key consideration. Remote-controlled ball valves were integrated, allowing operators to activate hose reels, batter sprays and the dribble bar at the push of a button. This is ideal for dusty, high-traffic environments where manual adjustments are impractical.\
To meet mining and high-risk site requirements, the trailer was fitted with essential mine-spec inclusions, including:
- Emergency stop (E-stop)
- Wheel chocks
- Wheel nut indicators

Our property, Duxton Farm, borders the Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory. Because of this, early season burning is extremely important to prevent uncontrollable bushfires later in the dry season. The trailer has been an invaluable asset to fire control – always full and ready to go when the call comes.
We’ve found it to be well balanced, empty or full, with the baffle ball system effectively controlling surge. We have had no issues with set-up, towing it with either a Landcruiser or Hilux.
Overall, we’re extremely happy with our purchase and the support from the Durotank team. We’ll be back.

I purchased a Poly Tank Fuel Trailer from DUROTANK in April 2018. DUROTANK builds one of the best fuel trailers I have ever used. The build quality, engineering and attention to detail is unreal.
