Fuelling a Remote National Park: Durotank’s Smart Cube Solution
Background & Challenge
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service manages more than 890 national parks and reserves across New South Wales, over 7.5 million hectares. A lot of that land is a long way from the nearest servo.
Their staff couldn’t always make the trip into town to refuel vehicles and tractors. Oftentimes, they relied on the bulk fuel tank on the park. But when they needed to replace it, they specifically needed a stationary, off-grid unit that held 5,000L, required not installation and didn’t need to move when full.

Solutions & Benefits
Durotank supplied a 5000L Smart Cube for the first site. This was paired with the 12V pump running off a solar and battery kit. So, the process was simple: drop, fill, go.

The client also added an emergency stop and a battery isolator. Both are standard safety features, but critical for a protected national park reserve. These features would instantly cut power to machinery to protect their operators from injury and reduce the risk of electrical fires.
However, at Thurloo Downs, an extremely remote property, fuel deliveries only arrived in 10,000L lots. The previous 5,000L tanks couldn’t handle that. They needed a larger fuel storage tank, so they ordered a 10,000L and a 15,000L tank, both configured the same way.

The Durotank Difference
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services was impressed with our product and turnaround time. Since then, they have been back for a 15kl tank and a 10kl tank, all with the same configuration.
