Bulk fuel and waste oil storage tanks for Stanmore
Stanmore is one of Australia’s largest suppliers of metallurgical coals to global markets, with 3 major coal-producing assets at Isaac Plains Complex, Poitrel and South Walker Creek, plus joint ownership of two additional mine sites. Stanmore reached out to Durotank to supply pricing for a fuel farm on-site coupled with a waste oil collection tank.
They were interested in a substantial onsite fuel storage system that could hold enough diesel at one time to efficiently fuel their complex of heavy machinery and keep operations running to a maximum. Due to the remote locations and long distance of transportation, the team at Durotank recommended 3 x 67,000L Self Bunded Smart Tanks for diesel and one 33,000L for waste oil. If tanks any larger than this had been chosen, they would have had to be transported as oversize units, adding to the cost, complexity and time taken for delivery.
Once the 4 new tanks arrived on-site in Queensland, Durotank coordinated the design of the connection of the tanks to create a vast 192,000L tank storage capacity. This involved supplying the initial connector pipework and valves to the site, specifying the correct spacing between the tanks to fit the pipework and identifying the exact location of the concrete footings to support the tanks. To ensure fast fuelling, a high flow unload pump was installed for service trucks to fill up and distribute fuel across the site and site vehicles.
The waste oil collection tank offered a great option for temporarily storing waste on-site with up to 33,000L capacity available before collection was required.
Stanmore was happy to work with Durotank and support an Australian made company that manufactured quality tanks onsite over imported tank options that would be less durable in the harsh mining landscape. They were thrilled with the overall project outcome and the efficiency of the project which was easily completed within specified timeframes.

Our property, Duxton Farm, borders the Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory. Because of this, early season burning is extremely important to prevent uncontrollable bushfires later in the dry season. The trailer has been an invaluable asset to fire control – always full and ready to go when the call comes.
We’ve found it to be well balanced, empty or full, with the baffle ball system effectively controlling surge. We have had no issues with set-up, towing it with either a Landcruiser or Hilux.
Overall, we’re extremely happy with our purchase and the support from the Durotank team. We’ll be back.
