Vinyl Wrapped Self Bunded Fuel Tank for Port Authority NSW
Port Authority NSW is a government owned corporation responsible for managing six major commercial seaports across New South Wales including Port Botany, Port Kembla, Sydney Harbour and the Ports of Newcastle. For all major seaports the Port Authority coordinates shipping movements, ensures safety and security of vessels and crew members and when necessary, facilitates emergency response procedures. Port Authority NSW got in touch with the team at Durotank to discuss the potential of implementing a safe, durable and stylish fuel storage option in Sydney Harbour that could be plumbed into the existing bowsers on the wharf.
Requirements
Port Authority NSW was interested in a diesel fuel tank that could fit into the existing bowser space whilst still holding the necessary amount of fuel. Due to the on-site fuel storage location close to a large body of water, the safety and compliance of the proposed fuel tank was paramount to ensure there was no environmental risk via fuel contamination. The tank therefore needed to be self-bunded and compliant to Australian standards and regulations surrounding storage of flammable liquids including AS1940. Alongside the water, another interesting site location factor for consideration was the heritage listed building the port resided next to, which meant that the fuel tank needed to blend effortlessly into the surrounding façade.
Solution
Due to the specific site requirements Durotank opted for their fully self-bunded 20,000L Smart Tank as this was able to fit into the required space with a smaller footprint, but also contained the necessary fuel storage capacity able to support site operations. The challenge of meeting on site requirements for the heritage listed building meant the Durotank team needed to customise the tank colours. The team worked closely with the Port Authority crew on a custom colour solution. The end result was a fully vinyl wrapped light grey Smart Tank that blended in seamlessly with the local environment. Due to the nature of the space, Durotank recommended an installation team to ensure an outstanding installation service was achieved in more challenging circumstances.
Results
Durotank worked with Port Authority NSW from design through to installation to deliver the desired results. Keeping within budget and timeframes Durotank delivered an exceptional fuel storage solution and Port Authority were very happy with the outcome of the project.
